Transforming Biofuel Production: The Power of Ketjen’s ReNewFCC™ Catalyst
Ketjen’s ReNewFCC™ catalyst line is revolutionizing the production of renewable biofuels from cellulosic feedstocks. Developed in partnership with Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores, a joint venture between Ketjen and Petrobras, ReNewFCC™ has proven its effectiveness in overcoming feedstock co-processing challenges through metals resistance and high accessibility, which also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Read Petrobras’ announcement here.
Cellulosic feedstocks, such as forest-based biomass, are abundant but pose significant co-processing challenges. Biofuels derived from renewable sources, such as biomass, can minimize greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels. This is because the carbon dioxide absorbed by the plants during their growth offsets the CO2 emitted when the biofuels are burned.
ReNewFCC™ enables the co-processing of renewables and circular feeds, including used cooking oil and materials derived from biomass streams like forestry and agriculture waste. In an industrial-scale test, fossil feedstock combined with 5% pyrolysis bio-oil from eucalyptus wood was successfully converted into various fractions such as fuel gas, LPG, and components for gasoline formulation and marine fuel with renewable content.
“This advanced technology, combined with advanced catalytic solutions, is a leap forward in processing advanced biogenic feedstocks without additional investment,” said Leonard Chan, Ketjen Senior Strategic Marketing Director and Country Manager – Singapore.
ReNewFCC™ was specially formulated with a high metals tolerance and enhanced accessibility leading to improved product yields compared to traditional FCC catalyst offerings. These unique features make ReNewFCC™ a highly advanced and flexible catalyst platform for the sustainable processing of renewable and recyclable feedstocks in refineries.
Ketjen collaborates closely with customers to develop optimized formulations of ReNewFCC™ and other catalyst platforms to maximize production value within existing refinery assets. Contact your Ketjen FCC representative or email us to learn more.
