Catalysts Academies Bring Refining Expertise to League City and Amsterdam

Ketjen recently wrapped its Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Course in League City, Texas and our Hydroprocessing Technologies Course in Amsterdam, Netherlands.  The courses are part of Ketjen’s Catalysts Academy

With nearly 700 courses delivered worldwide, the program provides both open enrollment and customized onsite training covering topics such as FCC and hydroprocessing, operator development, and troubleshooting. Led by Ketjen’s experienced catalyst specialists, each course is designed to connect core refining principles with practical operating insight that participants can immediately apply in their own units.

FCC Process Course

League City, Texas | March 3–6, 2026

Over four intensive days, participants explored FCC technology, process fundamentals, reaction chemistry, kinetics, and unit operations – all grounded in practical, real-world operating insight from Ketjen’s Technical Service Specialists.

The program also included a tour of Ketjen’s Bayport site, where attendees had the opportunity to see catalyst manufacturing, research and development, and the eCat laboratory up close. Experiences like this help bridge the gap between theory and the day-to-day realities of running an FCC unit.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to a fantastic week of learning, discussion, and collaboration. We are already looking forward to the next Catalysts Academy session.

European Hydroprocessing Course

Amsterdam, The Netherlands | March 3–6, 2026

Hosted at the Van der Valk Hotel Zuidas, the European Hydroprocessing Course brought together industry participants and Ketjen subject matter experts for an in-depth exploration of hydroprocessing fundamentals, unit operations, hydrotreating applications, renewables processing, and real-world troubleshooting.

Throughout the week, the sessions sparked valuable technical discussions and knowledge sharing among engineers, operators, and industry specialists. The course provided participants with both technical depth and practical insights that can help support stronger hydroprocessing performance in their own operations.

Programs like the Catalysts Academy reflect Ketjen’s ongoing commitment to sharing expertise and supporting the refining community with the knowledge needed to navigate an increasingly complex operating environment.

In today’s refining landscape, operational performance depends not only on advanced equipment but also on the depth of technical knowledge within refinery teams. Increasing feedstock variability, more stringent product specifications, evolving regulatory expectations, and the growing integration of renewable feedstocks all require a stronger understanding of the processes that drive refinery performance.
